Workshops and Meetings

Growing Futures includes a suite of green industry educational offerings and training opportunities.

We offer education, training, and networking events throughout the year. In addition to the Career Catalyst Pre-Apprenticeship Training that takes place each winter, and the RI Certified Horticulturist course offered each summer and fall, Growing Futures facilitates a full suite of green industry training opportunities.

Many of these events also qualify for continuing education units such as Related Technical Instruction (RTI) credits for people enrolled in the Registered Apprenticeship program, RIDEM pesticide license CEUs, and ISA arborist license CEUs. Check the list below for our regular offerings. Also, please check our events calendar for details of what we have coming up next and our event reports page to read about what we’ve been doing recently.

Regularly offered education event types include:

RINLA Annual Conference

Each winter, RINLA hosts its annual conference and trade show. This event offers a day to learn from experts in the fields of horticulture as well as business. It’s also a great opportunity to meet up with fellow RINLA members to share information and network. Ample time is built into the schedule to visit with a wide variety of vendors who offer goods and services to RINLA members. Your ticket includes continental breakfast, lunch, admission to all educational sessions, an afternoon reception with a raffle, and presentation of the RINLA Professional Excellence Awards. The RINLA Annual Conference typically takes place in late February or early March and registration begins at the end of the year at RINLA.org.

RINLA Twilight Meetings

Each month during the working season, RINLA member companies host Twilight Meetings that are opportunities to network with RINLA members, see the kinds of work they do, and what makes them stand out. Twilight Meetings are chances to see how different components of the green industry work. Twilight Meetings are typically held on the evening of the third Wednesday of each month.

Talk-to-the-Experts Workshops

Our TTE events are opportunities to learn specific skills from working people who practice them at their highest level. In the past, these have included plant identification workshops, green infrastructure design workshops, soil science practica, human resources and business consultations, integrated pest management instruction, and more. Talk-to-the-Experts events are typically held on Thursday evenings or Saturdays during the day.

Certification Preparation

Growing Futures staff also partner with other organizations to help industry professionals to prepare to take certification and licensure exams offered by other credentialing organizations, such as the Coastal Resources Management Council Certified Coastal Invasive Manager exam, the Rhode Island Arborist License exam, and the RI Commercial Pesticide Applicator License exam.
