Youth Apprenticeship Program
Currently, the Rhode Island Nursery and Landscape Association and the Growing Futures RI program are working with Prepare RI to pilot a Youth Apprenticeship Program. This will provide an opportunity for high school juniors and seniors to explore a specific career pathway while still in high school.
PrepareRI is an initiative to prepare all Rhode Island youth with the skills they need for jobs that offer a living wage. It represents a strategic partnership with Rhode Island government, private industry leaders, the public education system, universities, and non-profits across the state.
The goal of this program is to expose young people to agriculture and plant-based industry so students and their parents will have a better understanding of the meaningful living wage careers that plant-based industry has to offer.
Growing Futures RI will place students with a local green industry business so that a student will have an opportunity to experience and rotate throughout the business’s divisions. Or over the course of the year, students may be placed with a variety of companies with a different focus. At the end of this experience a young person may be hired by a RINLA member company. Several member companies participate in RINLA’s Registered Apprenticeship program.
Growing Futures will continue to update this page as the Youth Apprenticeship program continues to grow. If you are interested in Youth Apprenticeship, please email firstname.lastname@example.org
