Come grow your career with us and get paid to experience the green industry firsthand. Work with Growing Futures staff restoring and managing Rhode Island’s public lands for a week and then participate in job fairs and gain access to posting your resume on the Rhode Island Nursery and Landscape Association members-only job board.

Participate in work projects on Rhode Island’s public lands, gaining exposure to skills and topics that are essential to success in green industry jobs and careers. This is a two week paid training program.

All of the following steps are required:

  • Attend online information session with Growing Futures on April 13th
  • Apply online to the Growing Futures Intensive (details for how to apply are shared during the info session).
  • Candidates will be notified of selection by April 20th
  • Selected candidates will attend a virtual orientation on April 27th
  • Start the Intensive May 11
  • Participate in the Job Fair

The heart of the Growing Futures Intensive is hands-on green collar work. Program participants will work for two weeks in the Arcadia Management Area under the supervision of Growing Futures’s staff. You will be doing valuable and meaningful work to repair and restore our public lands including trail restoration, fire road clearing, tree and shrub pruning, and other entry-level forestry and horticulture work.

Upon successful completion of the GFCCI, you will qualify to participate in a job fair in late Spring and to post your resume on a private job board for nearly 600 Rhode Island Nursery and Landscape Association (RINLA) member companies.

PROGRAM DETAILS INCLUDE:

  • 2 week paid training (May 11-22)
  • 35 hours per week
  • $1,155 stipend

WHERE WILL THE GFCCI LEAD YOU?

Upon completion of the Intensive, participants will receive:

  • A certificate of completion.
  • Access to posting your resume on RINLA’s members-only job board.
  • Assistance with getting matched to available jobs.

To participate you must:

  • Be 18 or older.
  • Be able to lift up to 50 pounds and work a hard, physical, outdoor job all day.
  • Wear appropriate clothing to do physical work outdoors in late Spring conditions.
  • Have access to reliable transportation.

An ideal candidate for this bootcamp assessment program and for green industry jobs:

  • Loves being outside and engaging with natural materials (plants, soil, wood, stone).
  • Has endurance for long days of difficult physical work and finds satisfaction in it.
  • Is enthusiastic and motivated to work in the green industry.
  • Is willing and eager to learn.
